The project aims to redesign the rubber industry in Western Province in a way that creates opportunities for income generation for remote communities that would otherwise remain living in extreme poverty. To achieve this end Business for Development was commissioned by OTDF, to map the existing value chain, identify new supply chain opportunities and introduce off-take partners that will enable income earning opportunities for these farmers.

Working in partnership with OTDF, Business for Development have undertaken a number of information gathering and consultative missions to the region. After mapping the value chain for rubber production and export opportunities along the Fly River, we proposed an industry restructure and introduced a global commodity trading company as a commercial off-take partner. Most recently we lead the co-creation of a new business plan for a sustainable farmer-owned rubber industry in this remote and underdeveloped region of PNG.
